[Vietnamese Traditional Festivals] Doan Ngo Festival

“Doan” means starting, “Ngo” means mid-noon; Doan Ngo festival means the festival starts at mid-noon. Its other name is the festival for killing the persons’ inner insects. It takes place on the fifth of May lunar calendar and also a chance for change daily taste with typical food “com ruou” (little balls of fermented rice bathed in wine).

Doan Ngo festival is also called Doan Duong festival, because on this day is considered the best day in year with most sunlight. Aside from sticky rice wine, com ruou; Vietnamese people eat gio cake (Vietnamese Rice Pyramid Dumplings), fruits and duck meat with the belief that such these food can kill all insects in their body.
