Hung King temple-the place where Vietnamese history started

Located in Phu Tho province, about 100 km from Hanoi, Hung Kings Temple is a popular destination for tourists who love to explore Vietnamese history. Being the worship place for the most ancient royal family in the history of Vietnam, the complex has existed for thousands of years. Thus, despite being opened for tourist, the place still preserve the ancient atmosphere that all visitors could sense clearly when being here.

The complex of Hung King temple looked from higher view

Hung Kings Temple is a complex of majestic temples and mausoleums located on Nghia Linh Mountain, in Phong Chau District, Phu Tho Province. The first temples visitors meet is Ha (mean the lowest) temple, which is believed to be the place where Au Co-the female ancestor of Vietnamese gave birth to 100 eggs which hatched 100 kids-the first Vietnames people, the first child then became the first Hung King, also the first King of Vietnam. Then Trung temple (the middle), believed to be the meeting hall of Hung Kings and their juniors. The highest temples is Thuong temple, believed to be the place to hold worship customs under the reign of Hung Kings. Besides, there are many others constructions as Gieng (well) temple, Hung Kings’ tomb, the Great Door gate.

Every year in the 3rd month of lunar calendar, Vietnamese people flock here to pay tribute to the founders of Vietnam. It has become a tradition of Vietnamese to visiting Hung Kings Temple in the early Spring. They all come here to burn incense sticks and give offerings to the most ancient ancestors of the country. There’s a famous saying in Vietnamese which says wherever Vietnamese are, they all remember to gather here on the 10th of 3rd month in lunar calendar to for the death anniversary of Hung King.

In spite of being a destination of belief for Vietnamese people, the complex of Hung King temple is also a nice place for sightseeing. At this place, you will climb through stone stairs to the peak and enjoy the ;landscape on both sides. This could be a wonderful place for nature lovers. Every tree, every leaf here brings inside it the spirit of the ancient time. However the outside world is sunny, visitors always feel the fresh and cool air under the ancient foliage. And, however the outside world is busy, at the land where the history of Vietnam started thousands years ago, the flow of time feel as if it slowed down. Inhaling the air of this place would make you feel like washing off all the worries and sorrows of the modern life to go back thousands of years ago and live in a pristine, rustic society full of simple joys.
