Cuc Phuong National Park is about 120 km from Hanoi, to the southwest, located in the vicinity of 03 provinces including Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hoa Binh. Cuc Phuong is Vietnam’s largest national park and one of the most important sites for biodiversity in the country. It is characterized by tropical rain forest, all year green, Cuc Phuong has a rich diversified flora and fauna. Cuc Phuong has about 2,000 plant species and 2,600 animal species, many of which are listed in the Red Book of Vietnam and the world. This is one of seven centers of great plant diversity in Vietnam.
At the end of Spring and the beginning of summer – late April to the middle of May, you can see the flocks of flying butterflies overshadowed the sky. The season of butterflies in Cuc Phuong lasts from late April to the middle of May. In this time period, the weather is drier, therefore, tourists need not worry about insects and leech. It is recommended that you should arrive to admire the season of butterflies in the sunny dry weekdays as saying that at the weekend, the number of tourists is much larger, making butterflies scare and fly in a dispersed way.
With more than 400 species of butterflies of all kinds, the number of individuals up to millions in this race to bloom. Butterflies are most common on sunny days, making it colorful forest. Just by a light hand waving, a great flock of them will fly immediately. It is such a sparkling and fanciful scenery.
At the entrance gate, tourists can see countless butterfly wings flying in the peaceful atmosphere of Cuc Phuong National Park. If it is not witnessed in naked eyes, no one will believe that this is the true scenery in life. The farther you go into the forest, the more butterflies turn up. In the center of the forest, it may take your breath away by the image of hundreds or even thousands of butterflies. The blank land area now is covered with polychromatic carpet made by these butterflies.
To get to Cuc Phuong National Park, visitors can go from Hanoi along the National Highway 1A towards Ninh Binh, to Gian Khau junction -10 km form Ninh Binh city, Nho Quan town 2km turn left to Cuc Phuong.
